Getting ready for Celebrating Connections

In less than three weeks, I hope to be seeing many of the WV Child Care Center Directors at the CC Conference.  At that time I will have a list of all available training and college coursework for you to assess and the framework for the credential.  There are many decisions that need to be made.  These include: names and numbers of the credential levels, hours required, value of experience, role of the Child Care Resource and Referral trainings, areas of coursework/training, requirement for teaching in a center, and the role of college degrees in the credential.  At the present, I am suggesting five areas of specialized training - child development, early childhood education, small business administration, human resource management and working with parents and the community. I am also proposing three levels.  Level one would require one year of being a director and course work or 45 contact hours of training in each of the five areas listed above.  Level two would require 1 - 3 years of experience and an AA in Early Childhood Education, Business, or Child Development plus credit hours in each of the five areas (hours acquired during the earning of the degree count.)  Level three would require 2 or more years as a director and a BA or MA in Early childhood, Business Administration or Child Development and credit hours in each of the five areas. Please post a comment and help me design a credential for WV directors that is realistic and helpful.

  1. Cathy,
Sounds good, I am glad to see that you included Business Administration in the plans. It seems that you have worked hard to make sure our WV Director's Credential is aligned with both NAEYC and DHHR licensing. Thank you.
